Domaine George Lignier & Fils

Located in the heart of Morey-Saint-Denis in the Côte de Nuits, Domaine Georges Lignier & Fils is one of Burgundy’s historic producers. Founded in the early 20th century, the estate has remained in the Lignier family for several generations. Since 2003, Benoît Stehly, the great-grandson of Georges Lignier, has overseen the domaine, continuing a deeply respectful approach to both terroir and Burgundian tradition.

The estate now covers approximately 16 hectares spread across around fifty parcels in 17 prestigious appellations of the Côte de Nuits. Its holdings include vineyards in Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, and Gevrey-Chambertin, as well as several iconic Grand Cru sites such as Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis, Bonnes-Mares, and Charmes-Chambertin.

In both vineyard and cellar, the philosophy remains firmly traditional. Winemaking favors aromatic expression and finesse over power or heavy extraction. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels for 18 to 20 months depending on the cuvée, with careful attention paid to preserving the identity of each individual climat. The wines are typically bottled without fining or filtration, enhancing their depth and authenticity.

The wines of Georges Lignier are known for their elegance, aromatic purity, and their ability to faithfully reflect their origin. Where some producers in Morey-Saint-Denis emphasize concentration and structure, the domaine’s wines stand out for their refinement, delicacy, and relative accessibility in youth, while still offering excellent ageing potential. This approach has made it one of the most classic and authentic voices of the appellation.
